Some of the things we believe at Second Church…
God loves YOU, and there is nothing YOU can do about it.
We are to be instruments of God’s love.
We won’t allow our beliefs to be a barrier to love.
We were created as a blessing, that we might be a blessing.
The same love that existed in Jesus also exists in us.
The God portrayed by Jesus is a God of extravagant and unconditional love.
Jesus is the fullest embodiment of a life lived in the light of God’s love and peace.
We don’t worship the Bible. The writings of the Bible point to God.
The Word of God in scripture is both human and divine—just like Jesus!
When it comes to interpreting Scripture: we prioritize love over belief.
Our faith is not superior—My faith is enriched by your faith.
We will not condemn or convert.
Church should be a nurturing community that builds one another up.
Heaven or the Kingdom of God is one of love and of justice. We live into the kingdom of God every time we give to a neighbor, see the divinity in another, and every time we reach out to someone in compassionate care.
Hell is the absence of love, the internalization of hate and fear.
Born Again is dying to our old self and being released from power struggles, fear-based violence and a preoccupation with belief, doctrine and dogma. We will be born into a new identity centered in the sacred, in Spirit, in Christ, in God.
All are welcome and affirmed in this congregation as God’s beloved children of God!
