Hello Friends!
This fall you are invited to participate in a small group where we will intentionally engage in courageous conversations around the topic of racism. Are you a racist? Here at Second Church we’d probably answer “no”. Is that answer good enough today? What would be a “good” answer? Our own Katie Simmons and Paula Foresman, along with Pastor Wayne, will host a series of Zoom meetings to address the subject. We hope you’ll join us, because your voice is needed to speak to the questions we are all troubled by. Maybe together we can open up new ways of listening, thinking, and acting.
WHEN & WHERE:
Beginning at 11:15AM on Sunday, September 20th, we will be meeting online via Zoom for one hour every other Sunday through the fall (9/20, 10/4, 10/18, etc).
QUESTIONS:
Call or send an email to any of the facilitators above to ask questions or to let us know you’ll be there!
Friends, The following is a statement that was recently issued by our United Church of Christ leadership in support of efforts to condemn racism. Let us stand together and unite, for #blacklivesmatter.

A message from Pastor Wayne
Dear Friends, At this time it’s clear that loving our neighbor demands that we practice “social distancing,” though it doesn’t mean that we need to stop being the church. We can still connect through phone and email messages as well as through facebook, etc. Over the next few weeks, I plan to offer devotional thoughts through our all-church e-mail list and social media accounts. Although we cannot presently have in person meetings, I’d like to challenge you to consider such spiritual practices as prayer, contemplation, the slow reading of inspirational texts, meditative walking, solitude, silence and journaling, to name a few of many disciplines. Of course, some of us have active, vibrant family members at home which might make the silence option hard to achieve! Also, I encourage you to submit prayer requests to me or to your deacons. (Let us know if you’d like them shared with the wider church family.) Finally, any decisions about holding public meetings in April will be made in the coming weeks based on guidelines from the CDC and the WHO.
Let us be brave as we work toward finding new and creative ways to be the church until this pandemic ends. We will get through this!
~Peace, Pastor Wayne
