The church voted to set aside land for a cemetery on October 14, 1744 and the first graves were constructed shortly thereafter. In 1831 it became necessary to relocate many graves to make way for the new railroad tracks. Most remains were reinterred at their present spot directly to the rear of the church.

The current driveway, which serves as the exit from the church parking lot, sits over an old carriageway that was used by the horse-drawn hearses in the days before automobiles. When the church first proposed the creation of the driveway, based on the presence of a gate in the back fence to the kirkyard, the Historical Commission originally refused permission until an archival photograph proved the existence of the old carriageway.
